PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle softball team earned the fifth seed in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship which begins Wednesday from Sortino Field at UMass.

Tournament Central The Explorers open up the tournament facing the fourth seed George Mason at noon on Wednesday. The winner will advance to face the top overall seed Dayton on Thursday while the loser will face the loser between Fordham and St. Bonaventure in an elimination game on Wednesday evening.
La Salle took two of three from George Mason in late April. The Explorers took the first game 6-5 in nine innings before falling 2-3 in the second game of the doubleheader. In the rubber game of the series La Salle exploded for ten runs on eight hits on its way to a 10-2 victory in six innings.
The Explorers enter the tournament ranked third in team pitching with a 3.03 team ERA during conference play. Junior
Mary Cate Scott and freshman
McKenzie Peace both rank in the top ten in individual ERA during conference play. Scott has gone 4-3 in conference play with a 2.14 ERA while Peace has a 3-5 recording and 2.59 ERA against conference opponents.
Offensively La Salle has been paced by sophomore
Christina Bascara. She ranks fifth in the league with a .475 on base percentage and seventh with a .605 slugging percentage on the year. Senior
Alicia Aughton has come on strong during conference play. Aughton has a team high 18 RBIs against conference foes. Freshman
Valerie Pineiro has been an injection of power into the offense this season. The left fielder hit .316 against conference opponents with three homers and 14 RBI.
If La Salle wins against George Mason they will advance to face No. 1 Dayton on Thursday at noon. If they fall to the Patriots, they will enter the loser's bracket and matchup with either St. Bonaventure or Fordham in an elimination game.
