PHILADELPHIA- The women's track and field team will head to Haverford College on Saturday to begin their indoor season at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, hosted by Villanova.
The Explorers will see 14 athletes compete in nine different events in the season debut against Swarthmore, St. Joseph's, Cheyney and Moore Running Club.
Opening the meet are freshman and sophomore pair
Jessica Bryant and
Kaleah Miller. Bryant will make her debut in an Explorers jersey in the high and long jumps, while Miller will return for her second year jumping at Jack Pyrah.
A trio of Explorers will compete in the 60m dash, with rookie
Tyller Moorer appearing for her first collegiate track race. Moorer will be joined by returners
Mone't Gist and
Ariel Mitchell.
Mitchell will double up to compete in the 300m event, among four additional La Salle runners. The sophomore will be joined by newcomers
Shelby Francis and
Desirae Osley, who will see their first collegiate competition.
Amber Jenkins and Corinne Davis will also compete in the 300m for the second year in a row.
Gist and Francis will also both appear in the 60m hurdles sprint, among a group of 14 competitors.
Freshman Capri Lawrence and
Devon Barr will represent La Salle as a duo in the 500m event against nine other runners in their collegiate debut.
Junior
Ifetayo Tyler will return as the sole representative in the 800m after a second place finish last year thanks to a time of 2:21.57.
Wrapping up the day will be juniors
Kaitlin Poiesz and
Megan Connell, who will see their first Jack Pyrah meet in the 3000m event.
The Explorers will return to the track after a long break in the new year, when they travel to the Great Dane Classic on Staten Island in N.Y.
