La Salle Heads to Liberty Softball Classic

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The La Salle softball team returns to action as they head to Lynchburg, Virginia to take part in the Liberty Softball Classic. The Explorers will play five games over the three days against Norfolk State, Liberty, Rhode Island, and Sacred Heart.

Scouting the Explorers

-La Salle enters the weekend after grabbing its first two wins of the season a week ago at the UCF Softball Spring Fling. The Explorers grabbed a 5-0 win over Middle Tennessee State and a 4-2 win over South Dakota during their time in Orlando.

-The Explorers have four players batting at or above .300 on the season. Bridgett Magee leads the way at .429 (3-7) on the year. Tori Gollie (.375), Christina Bascara (.304) and Angelina Refice (.300) also have started off the season strong at the plate.

-Sophomore Valerie Pineiro has a team-high seven RBI on the years as well as two runs scored on five hits. Junior Mackenzie Obert leads the way with five runs scored on the year.

-Four pitchers have toed the rubber so far this season for the Explorers. Senior Mary Cate Scott has thrown a team-high 15.2 innings and owns a 2-1 record on the year.

Scouting the Spartans

-Norfolk State enters the weekend having split four games with Rhode Island (2-2) while dropping double headers to both George Washington and Radford.

-Stephanie Davenport leads the team with a .636 average on the year having seven hits in 11 at bats. She has one homer and is tied for a team-high four RBI on the season.

-Megan Przeslawski has led the way in the circle for the Spartans. She has thrown 24.0 innings with a 2.63 ERA and 23 strikeouts on the season.

Scouting the Flames

-Liberty comes into the weekend having split four games at the LSU Invitational last weekend. Liberty picked up wins over Memphis (9-2) and Louisiana Tech (11-6) while falling to Tennessee Tech (0-7) and LSU (0-8)

-Jaclyn Amader and Rylee Reynolds have led the way at the plate for the Flames. Amader leads the team with a .344 average and Reynolds is close behind hitting .340. Sarah Robertson has a team-high 11 RBI and 15 runs scored on the year.

-The Flames have used three pitchers on the season. Julia DiMartino leads the team with a 2.56 ERA while Chase Cassidy has a 4-5 record on the year with 45 strikeouts.

Scouting the Rams

-This matchup will not count as an A-10 meeting and will be a non-conference matchup. The Rams come into the weekend after splitting a four game set with Norfolk State. The Rams dropped a doubleheader on Saturday before taking the Sunday doubleheader.

-Sophomore Kylie Shivery leads the team with a .378 average and has already knocked four homers on the year. The Rams have ten team homers on the season. Shivery also leads Rhode Island with 18 RBI on the year.

-Freshman Becca Rogers and senior Caitlin Kennedy have been the primary pitchers for the Rams this season. Rogers has thrown a team high 33.1 innings with a 4.41 ERA and 21 strikeouts on her way to a 3-3 record. Kennedy has toed the rubber for 27.1 innings with a 1-1 record.

Scouring the Pioneers

-Sacred Heart enters the weekend after playing four games midweek. The Pioneers split a doubleheader with Stetson before falling to Hampton and grabbing a win over Drexel on Wednesday.

-Junior Kelyn Fillmore leads the Pioneers with a .321 average through ten games this season. Sacred Heart have had spread out their offensive output with five different players knocking a homer and Lindsey DeDomenico leading the team with five RBI.

-Junior Jamie Carlson has been the primary pitcher for Sacred Heart this season. She has thrown 30.2 innings with a 1-3 record and a 3.65 ERA to her name.
Next up

La Salle closes out the heart of its nonconference next weekend at the UMBC Spring Classic. The Explorers will play Sacred Heart twice and UMBC and Siena over the three days of the tournament.
