DAYTON, Ohio - The La Salle softball team was swept in a doubleheader by host Dayton, 6-0 and 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Explorers were limited to four hits on the day, with freshman's
Emma Schweigert's solo homerun providing only offense.
Sophomore Mackenzie Peace threw well in the nightcap despite suffering the loss. She allowed two earned runs in six innings, while striking out two.
In the opener, Dayton (19-15-1, 8-2-1 A-10) broke open a 2-0 game with four runs in the fifth. Senior
Mary Cate Scott (8-4) was tagged with the loss after allowing five earned runs in 5.2 innings.
Junior
Kristin Martin had La Salle's only hit off winning pitcher M. Cash (6-0), who struck out six batters in five scoreless innings of relief.
In game two, Schweigert's homer gave the Explorers (10-20, 2-8 A-10) a 1-0 lead in the fifth but the Flyers answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. J. Gilliam (6-6) picked up the win for UD, throwing five innings and allowing one earned run.
The two teams will complete the series on Sunday at noon.
