DAYTON, Ohio - Senior
Mary Cate Scott threw five scoreless innings of relief but the La Salle bats couldn't fully ovecome a 2-0 deficit and fell 2-1 at Dayton on Sunday afternoon.
Scott allowed only two hits and did not walk a batter. She struck out one in relief of sophomore Mackenzie Peace, who allowed two earned runs on four hits in one inning to suffer the loss (2-9).
The Flyers (20-15-1, 9-2-1 A-10) used three hits in the first to take a 2-0 lead. The Explorers scored their only run in the third when junior
Suzanne Swanicke doubled and senior
Erica Reis singled to give the visitors runners on first and third with no outs. Pinch runner
Alli Waddington scored on a fielder's choice but La Salle couldn't push across any more runs.
In the fifth, freshman
Emma Schweigert doubled to lead off the frame but was stranded there.
La Salle (10-21, 2-9 A-10) was held to three hits by Dayton pitcher Manda Cash, who improved to 7-7. She threw all seven innings for the complete game and struck out 11 batters.
The Blue and Gold return to Philadelphia with a short trip to Drexel on Tuesday. The single game begins at 4 PM.
