FAIRFAX, Va.- The La Salle women's track and field team competed in day one of the A-10 Indoor Championships at George Mason.
Senior
Mone't Gist led the team with a new school record in the 60m hurdles to set the pace for La Salle's competition over the weekend. Gist placed fifth in the preliminaries when she registered a time of 8.79 and will continue in the final on Sunday.
Freshman
Shelby Francis set a new personal record when she crossed the line in 9.10 in the 60m hurdles in ninth place.
Ifetayo Tyler secured herself a place in Sunday's final in the 800m event when she clocked a time of 2:14.22 to finish third in the preliminary round.
Kaitlin Poiesz grabbed La Salle's first medal when she finished third in the finals of the 5000m event in a time of 17:08.71.
Michelle Myland also competed, finishing 10
th in the field of 26 runners with a time of 17:44.51.
Olivia Boyer capped the Explorers performance in the 5000m, finishing the distance in 18:23.54.
Ariel Mitchell led a pair of Explorers in the 60m hurdles preliminary when she finished ninth with a time of 67.81. Gist followed behind in 13
th, finishing in a time of 7.93.
Junior
Amber Jenkins was the sole representative for La Salle in the 200m sprint, finishing the distance in 25.82 to place 15
th overall.
Freshman duo
Desirae Osley and
Tyller Moorer competed in the 400m event, with Osley crossing the line in 10
th place in a time of 1:00.26 while Moorer finished in 1:05.03.
Jessica Bryant earned a fifth place finish when she jumped 5.59m in the finals of the long jump.
Kaleah Miller followed behind in eighth, leaping 5.46m on the day.
The distance medley relayed team placed second in the finals in a time of 11:45.82 to round out day one of the A-10 Championships.
La Salle will continue the hunt for individual titles tomorrow, with racing resuming at 9:00 AM in Fairfax, Va. Live results and coverage is available at atlantic10.com.
