CHARLOTTE – The La Salle softball team opens their 2017 season this weekend at the University of Charlotte's Green and White Invitational.
The Explorers will play a total of five games, beginning with Friday matchups against Fairfield and Charlotte. La Salle will play Robert Morris on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. before a game at either 2:30 or 4:45 on Saturday to determine if they will play in the consolation game at 10 a.m. or the championship game at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.
La Salle will then head to Florida over spring break to take part in the North Florida Invitational (March 3-5) and the USF Under Armour Invitational (March 10-12).
"This first weekend will help us get going and build for Florida," said head coach
Ron Shoemaker. "Then we'll use Florida to build for the conference."
The Blue and Gold open A-10 play at George Mason (March 25-26) after the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational (March 17-19) and a doubleheader at Penn on March 22. La Salle is eyeing a return to the A-10 Championship this year after missing the cut last season.
"I think everyone has that taste in their mouth, we want to be back there, especially the seniors," said senior catcher
Kristin Martin. "We want to leave our mark making it there and feeling like we did the best we could at A-10's."
The Explorers open their home slate April 8-9 against George Washington at West Campus Field.
