ORLANDO, Fla. - The La Salle University men's tennis team was defeated by fifth-seeded Dayton, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championships at the United States Tennis Association National Campus on Thursday morning.
Despite the Explorers putting up a fight in both the No. 1 and 2 doubles matches, the Flyers were able earn the point to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles, Dayton's Simon Jayaram earned a straight-set victory at No. 4 over La Salle junior
Joe DiOrio to push the Flyers' advantage to 2-0. Zach Berry and Carsten Fisher completed the team win with triumphs at No. 3 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
For the Explorers, sophomore
Francesco Mowrey was up a break on Jordan Benjamin in his match at the No. 1 spot, but lost his lead late and dropped the first set, 7-5. The match was halted before completion due to the clinching of the team win by Dayton.
