PHILADELPHIA - Junior
Francesco Mowrey earned a straight-set victory at the top singles position for the La Salle men's tennis team, who dropped a 5-2 decision to Morgan State in its spring season opener on Saturday.
Mowrey, who also teamed with senior
Tomas Christian to help the Explorers win at the No. 1 doubles spot, won the first set against Arjun Ramakrishnan, 6-4, and cruised to a 6-3 win in the second.
La Salle earned its second point by way of the doubles point. In addition to the win at No. 1, freshmen
Rogelio Gonzalez and
Connor Merrill defeated Morgan State's duo at No. 2 by a 7-5 margin.
Gonzalez also battled in his match at No. 3 singles, earning an opening-set win but ultimately falling in three.
The Explorers return to action on Friday, Jan. 26 at Navy. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
