Women’s Soccer Geared to Bounce Back Against St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University women's soccer team (6-4-1, 1-3 A-10) is geared up to bounce back Thursday when it hosts St. Bonaventure (0-9-4, 0-4 A-10) at 7 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Game-Winning Expertise
Of the Explorers six wins, redshirt-senior Madison Bower has five of the team's game-winning goals. Entering Wednesday, Bower sat tied for second in the nation for game-winning goals with Bri Folds of Auburn, Madeline Feist of UC Riverside, and Miah Zuazua of Southern Miss. –three goals behind Raimee Sherle of Boise St.
 
National Attention
The Explorers have been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll during the first six weeks of the season, including two weeks where they've been receiving votes for the top 25 poll.
 
Welcome, Molly!
Sophomore Molly O'Brien transferred to La Salle this season from Loyola (Md.) and has certainly made her presence felt. The Media, Pa. native has played in all 11 games this season, making eight starts. O'Brien currently sits second on the team in scoring with nine points on three goals and three assists. All of her scoring came in a four-game stretch, including two games with a career high three points.
 
New Goalie, No Problem
In her first season as the starting keeper, sophomore Claudia Jenkins has been nearly perfect. Starting all 11 games on the season, she posts four shutouts with 54 saves, a goals against average of 1.13, and a save percentage of .806. Jenkins sits in the top six in the A-10 in all of those categories, including third in save percentage and tied for third in saves.
 
Bower Power
To no surprise, Madison Bower is one of the top players in the A-10. Currently, she ranks tied for fourth in goals (6), eighth in points (13), and leads game-winning goals by one.
 
LAST TIME OUT – L, 1-3 vs. UMass:
  • The Minutewomen jumped out to a 2-0 lead, before the Explorers responded with a goal by freshman Camaren Cox. Junior Jess Shanahan sent a ball from just outside the left side of the box for Cox to nail the one timer home.
  • UMass answered in the second half with its third goal on the afternoon.
  • Late in the second, La Salle had an opportunity to inch closer on a penalty kick, however the UMass keeper held, saving the PK.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE:
  • The Bonnies enter Thursday's game 0-9-4 overall and 0-4 in the Atlantic 10, losing their last seven.
  • Sydney Cerza paces the team in points with 10. Cerza has scored four goals and two assists in 13 games this season.
  • In goal, Lauren Malcolm has started all 13 games for the Bonnies, making 90 saves with a save percent of .776. Malcolm has allowed 26 goals on the year, for a 1.83 goals against average.
