PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team will open the 2018 campaign this weekend with four games in the Camel Stampede, hosted by Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C.
In the weeks leading up to the season, first-year head coach
Brooke Darreff and her staff have been focusing on fundamentals.
"Our staff has been all about development and working on the little things," said Darreff. "They always say if you do the little things right you can win games."

Emma Schweigert credits the Darreff's approach with a new team new mindset entering the season.
"Preseason this year has been a lot more intense than in years past, I think a lot of girls feel more prepared," said Schweigert. "Our confidence level is up, so I think we're going to do well going into this weekend."
Although the Explorers graduated eight last spring, some key returners enter the season with another year of college softball under their belts.
Junior
Marlo Roadcap, sophomore
Reilly Gearhart and senior
McKenzie Peace will anchor the pitching staff. The trio accounted for 46 starts and all 20 of La Salle's wins last season.
Offensively, Schweigert is back after leading the team with 37 hits and batting .306 last season. Senior
Taylor Rohrbaugh finished second on the team with 22 RBI's in 2017.
"Our offense looks, in my opinion, looks really strong," said Darreff. "I think our hitters are going to feel really comfortable going in against some experienced pitchers."
The Explorers open on Friday afternoon against Fairfield at 12:30 p.m., and then play Campbell at 5:30. La Salle will also play two games Saturday, beginning with a matchup against Georgia Tech at 12:30 p.m. before wrapping the weekend against Campbell at 5:30 p.m.
