PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team travels north this weekend to open conference play at Massachusetts, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday before the finale on Sunday at noon.

Scouting the Explorers
-La Salle went 4-1 last weekend in the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational, and will ride a four-game winning streak into the series with UMass.
-Freshmen
Marissa Ewald and
Ashley Mendenhall had huge weekends at the plate for the Explorers, combining to drive in 13 runs. Ewald hit .500 (6-for-12) with a homer and eight RBI's on the way to a .917 slugging percentage while Mendenhall hit .353 (6-for-17) with a homer and five RBI's.
-The Explorers scored 41 runs over five games as
Taylor Rohrbaugh (6-for-14),
Jackie Heim (8-for-20) and
Emma Schweigert (6-for-15) each hit at least .400 over the weekend. Heim clubbed two doubles and two homers while Schweigert also homered as the pair had six RBI's apiece.

Reilly Gearhart went 2-0 and earned a save over the weekend, sporting a 1.17 ERA through 12 innings. The sophomore threw a complete-game, her fifth of the season, in Friday's win over UMBC.
Scouting the Minutewomen
-The Minutewomen head into conference play after going 2-2 last weekend at the St. John's Invite, capping off their weekend with a 12-2 five-inning run-rule win over the host Red Storm on Sunday afternoon.
-Jena Cozza hit .583 over the weekend with eight RBI's and leads the Minutewomen this season with a .492 average and 25 RBI's. The redshirt senior is second in the NCAA in slugging-percentage (1.079) and fourth in on-base percentage (.610).
-Kaycee Carbone ranks second on the team in batting average (.368) to go along with 23 RBI's, five home runs and a .618 slugging-percentage.
-In the circle, freshman Kiara Oliver has posted a 2.94 ERA with a 6-2 record in nine starts.
