BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite taking two of three doubles matches to earn an early 1-0 lead, the La Salle University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Lehigh on Sunday afternoon.
The duo of
Francesco Mowrey and
Tomas Christian disposed of Lehigh's top pair to give the Explorers an early edge in doubles. After a La Salle loss at No. 3, freshmen
Connor Merrill and
Rogelio Gonzalez secured the point for the Explorers with a 6-3 win at the second position.
From there, the Mountain Hawks won three singles matches in straight sets to take a commanding 3-1 advantage. Mowrey, playing at the top singles position, fought back from a 6-0 loss in the opening set of his matchup with Harry Wang, winning the second, 6-4. In the third, Mowrey and Wang went to a tiebreak, with Wang coming out on top to clinch the win for Lehigh.
La Salle travels to Baltimore for its next match, a non-league tilt with Coppin State on Thursday, March 29.
