Ariel Mitchell broke the school record in the 60-meter dash and junior
Jessica Bryant won two events, as the La Salle University women's track and field team opened the 2019 season at Fordham's Brian Horowitz Invitational on Friday.
WHERE THEY FINISHED
- Mitchell tied the school record of 7.66 seconds in her preliminary run and then cruised to victory in the 60-meter finals, establishing a new program mark at 7.63 seconds, a record that was held since 2005.
- Bryant easily captured the long jump and triple jump titles. She won the long jump with a leap of 5.33 meters, while senior Kaleah Miller finished third at 5.04 meters. Bryant then posted a jump of 11.27 meters in the triple jump to take first, followed by Miller at 10.75 meters in second.
- Freshmen Arianna Wallace and Liz Mancini both notched victories in their collegiate debuts as well. Wallace took the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.75, and Mancini captured the mile run with a time of 5:13.70.
- Junior Desirae Osley placed second out of eight finishers in the 200-meter sprint with a mark of 26.58.
- Graduate student Megan Connell also claimed a runner-up finish with a time of 10:26.29 in the 3,000 meters.
- Sophomore Makayla Eberly ran the 1,000 meters in 3:07.05 for third, while classmate Katherine Weiss finished fifth out of 10 with a mark of 8.35 meters in the shot put.
- Meanwhile, Osley, Mitchell, freshman Leah Sassaman and Wallace teamed up to place third in the 4x400 relay, finishing in 4:14.82.
