PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (5-12) opens Atlantic 10 play this weekend with a series at Saint Louis (5-18). The Explorers and Billikens square off in a double header on Saturday (noon and 2 p.m.) and close the series on Sunday in a single game at noon.
La Salle finished 3-19 in the Atlantic 10 last season, with three losses to SLU. In the preseason coaches' poll, the Explorers were pegged to finish in 13
th.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters play with a 5-12 record after falling to Penn in a double header this past Wednesday.
- Senior Emma Schweigert leads an Explorers' roster that is collectively hitting .233. Schweigert boasts a .320 batting average and is tied for the team lead in homeruns, runs and hits.
- Junior Emily Conaway is pacing the squad with 30 total bases and 12 RBIs. Conaway is also tied with Schweigert for the team lead in homers, runs, and hits, while hitting .286.
- In the circle, freshman Cailey Joyce (3-4) is leading staff in innings pitched (65.2), ERA (3.70), wins (3), complete games (6), and batting average against (.332). Joyce has set down 33 batters on strikes, while allowing 15 walks.
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski is second on the team with a 2-6 record. Orlowski has tossed 42.2 innings and posts a 5.27 ERA.
- This weekend's series will serve has a homecoming for freshmen Mack Bernhard and Kaylee Piven. The duo, which is from northeast Illinois, are both expecting a significant turnout from their families and friends.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS:
- Saint Louis sits at 5-18 overall. Most recently, the Billikens won four out of their last three games, with wins over Omaha, Northern Colorado and Detroit Mercy as part of the Billiken Spring Tournament.
- Kat Lane leads SLU at the plate with a .367 average through 17 games.
- Sadie Wise is second on the team, hitting .357 and leads the team in hits, doubles, RBIs, and total bases.
- On the rubber, the SLU pitching staff posts a 6.14 ERA and a .339 batting average against.
- Kallen Loveless leads with team with a 4-4 record over 61 innings pitched in 13 appearances. Loveless allows opponents to hit .337, while allowing 4.36 earned runs per outing.
- Aubrey Hacke is the team's next pitcher on staff with a 1-6 record over 36.2 innings or work in 11 appearances.
