PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (5-15) will host crosstown rival, Villanova (15-15), on Wednesday for the program's home opener at West Campus Field. The Explorers and Wildcats will play in a single game matchup with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters play at 5-15 overall after dropping three games at Saint Louis this past weekend.
- Junior Emily Conaway is leading the Explorers with a .290 batting average. The Berwyn, Pa. native paces the squad with 18 hits and 32 total bases, including six doubles, two homers, and a triple. Conaway also leads the team with 13 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
- Senior Emma Schweigert is next on the team hitting .281. The outfielder is tied for second on the team with 16 hits, while collecting a total of 24 bases.
- In the circle, La Salle has seen three pitchers on the season. Freshman Cailey Joyce is leading the unit the 14 appearances and a 3-6 record. The rookie has tossed 76.1 innings this season with a 4.95 ERA.
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski is next on the team's staff, seeing action in 10 games. She's thrown 46.2 innings with a 2-7 record and a 6.17 ERA.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS:
- Villanova is 15-15 on the campaign, having dropped its last two games in a double header against Seton Hall.
- Paige Rauch is leading the Wildcats with a .376 batting average and paces the team with 32 hits, including 67 total bases, 25 RBIs, and eight dingers.
- Delaney Switzer is second on the team hitting .337. Switzer has started all 30 games and has notched four doubles.
- Seven different pitchers have seen action for Villanova with Rauch pacing the team in the circle. Rauch holds an 8-7 record with 18 appearances and six complete games. She posts a 2.44 ERA over 89.0 innings of work and has struck out 67 batters.
