WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The La Salle University women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the spring season, earning five singles wins and a sweep of a doubles point en route to a 6-1 triumph at Monmouth on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Explorers got off to a great start, posting 6-2 victories at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots to secure the point.
- The third and final match came down to a tiebreaker, as juniors Tiffany Theophil and Ali Snyder took down Sophia Fredriksson and Maria Ivanova, 5-0, to complete the doubles sweep.
- Singles action saw La Salle earn convincing straight-set victories in five of the six matches.
- Theophil allowed her opponent at the top singles spot, Nicole Gasser, only three games over two sets in a 6-2, 6-1 win.
- Snyder was next in line with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2, while senior Brittany Poje took home a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Chinonye Gabriel at No. 3.
- Freshman Jazmin Walle (No. 5) and junior Maansi Malhotra (No. 6) also won for the Explorers, who snapped a seven-match winless skid.
