PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (5-16) will welcome conference opponent St. Bonaventure (2-16) to West Campus Field this weekend for the Explorers' first home conference series of the season. The squads are set to play a twin bill on Saturday starting a noon and a single game on Sunday with the same start time.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle enters the weekend's competition at 5-16 overall and have dropped its last seven contests.
- In their most recent game, the Explorers fell to Villanova at home, 8-7. Freshman Audrey LaBouliere had a career day going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a walk.
- The Blue and Gold are 4-2 when the team scores five runs or more and just 1-14 when it scores four or less. La Salle also holds a 5-3 record when it scores before its opponent and an 0-13 record when the opponent scores first.
- Offensively, junior Emily Conaway leads the team in nearly every statistical category, including batting average (.292), runs (11), hits (19), doubles (6), RBIs (13), and total bases (33). The Berwyn, Pa. native has started all 21 games this season, with action at both shortstop and third base.
- La Salle has four hitters between .262 and .279 on a team with a .235 average.
- Inside the circle, the Explorers' staff is led by freshman Cailey Joyce. Joyce is 3-6 overall in 15 appearances with 10 starts. The rookie has tossed 77.1 innings with a 5.00 ERA. She's allowed 114 hits and fanned 34 on the season.
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski holds down the number two spot on the staff with a 2-8 record in 11 appearances. Orlowski has 52.2 innings of work under her belt and holds a 5.98 ERA. The West Chester, Pa. native has given up 86 hits and struck out 26.
- Six different true freshmen have started a game for the Explorers this season, the second most among any A-10 team behind Rhode Island. Of those six, four have started in every game that they've played in, which is also second behind Rhode Island (5) for the most in the league. Freshman Mackenzie Vogler is the only rookie on the team to start in every game this season.
SCOUTING THE BONNIES:
- St. Bonaventure is 2-16 overall and is currently riding a nine-game losing streak. The Bonnies two wins have come over Niagara.
- On Wednesday, the Bonnies fell to Youngstown State twice in a double header, 1-0 and 5-1.
- McKenna Holtz leads the team in many offensive categories and is one of three players to start in all 18 games this season. Holtz is hitting a team best .294, while also pacing the squad in runs (8), hits (15), doubles (4), and total bases (19).
- Three other players are hitting .286 or above on a team that averages .229.
- On the rubber, the Bonnies have primarily used three pitchers. Ally Haskell has appeared in nine games, making seven starts for a total of 39.0 innings of action. Haskell holds a 6.64 ERA, allowing 37 earned runs on 54 hits and 20 walks.
