PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle University men's tennis team battled to the finish against Atlantic 10 foe George Mason, with the team score coming down to the final match of the day on Friday afternoon. In the end, the Explorers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Patriots at Legacy Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams split the top two doubles matches, with the third match deciding the swing point.
- George Mason earned a 6-0 win at the No. 3 position, taking a critical 1-0 lead in the match.
- Freshman Nassim Fenjiro picked up the easiest singles win of the day, taking the point at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2.
- George Mason picked up two singles victories by way of straight sets, leading in to a critical third set at three positions.
- La Salle won the ever-important third set at No. 1 (Francesco Mowrey) and No. 3 (Rogelio Gonzalez), but saw the match come down to No. 6.
- Sophomore Colin Lucius, who came through in La Salle's match against St. Bonaventure, took the first set from Erick Rivas.
- Rivas battled back to win the second set in a tiebreak and win the third, 10-8, to secure the team win for GMU.
- The match began outdoors, then went into a delay due to weather conditions. The match was then moved indoors, where one court was utilized for the majority of the match.
