PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (8-23, 1-8 A-10) will host Dayton (19-19, 6-3 A-10) for a three-game conference home stand this weekend at West Campus Field. A twin bill is scheduled on Saturday starting at noon and a single game will take place on Sunday at noon.
Saturday's game will feature the spring student tailgate series, providing La Salle students with lunch courtesy of Pauline's. La Salle Outpost is also expected to be at the game selling La Salle merchandise.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is 8-23 after splitting Wednesday's doubleheader with city foe Drexel. The Dragons claimed the first game 6-5 after nine innings of play, however the Explorers took the night cap 13-8.
- On the season, senior Emma Schweigert is pacing the team at the plate with a .322 average. The Auburn, Pa. native also leads the squad with 29 hits, nine walks, and seven stolen bases. Currently riding a four-game hit streak, Schweigert is hitting .500 over her last six games with 11 total bases and five RBIs.
- Junior Emily Conaway has been one of the best performers on the team this season. She leads the Explorers with 53 total bases, 25 RBIs, 18 runs, and eight doubles. Conaway's five home runs, which is tied with Schweigert for the team lead, is more than she hit in her first two seasons combined, while her 25 RBIs also rank higher.
- Like Schweigert, freshman Cailey Joyce is also slashing .500 over the last six games, good enough for a six-game hit streak. The dual-purpose player hits for herself when she's in the circle. Joyce has seen the most action this year, collecting 112 innings of work over 22 appearances. With a 5-9 record, Joyce has allowed 167 and 26 walks for 77 earned runs and a 4.81 ERA. The Mechanicsburg, Pa. native also leads the staff with 58 punch outs.
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski is the Explorers' other go-to starter. Appearing in 19 contests this year, she holds a 3-12 record with a 4.08 ERA. Tossing 85.2 innings, Orlowski has given up 123 hits and 28 walks, while striking out 38.
- Schweigert is third all-time with 21 home runs and is four behind Megan Hodgson to tie second place and seven behind tying Michelle Hagarty for first place.
- So far this season, La Salle is 5-1 when scoring six runs or more and just 2-16 when allowing six or more.
- La Salle has started six different freshmen this season, with three starting 26 games or more. Rookie Mackenzie Vogler is the only one to start all 31 games on the year. The Explorers are second in the Atlantic 10 with six different freshmen appearing in a starting lineup this season.
- Defensively, La Salle is second in the conference and 52nd in the nation turning 0.42 double plays per game.
SCOUTING THE FLYERS:
- Dayton enters play at 19-19 overall and 6-3 in the conference. The Flyers are 7-10 on the road this season and are most recently coming off of a split double header with Wright State.
- Three different players are hitting .336 or above this season with Lisa Tassi leading the way at .386 with a team high 44 hits.
- Kyle Davidson is next on the team with a .369 batting average and paces Dayton with 30 runs scored and 19 stolen bases.
- Abby Ehrenborg is hitting .336 and is leading the Flyers with 67 total bases, 35 RBIs, and eight homers.
- On the rubber, two pitchers have seen the bulk of the work. Jessica Weaver (8-6) has tossed a team high 99.2 innings over 25 appearances. Weaver allows opponents to hit .320 and holds a 4.07 ERA.
- Jessica Gilliam is next on the squad with 94.1 innings in 27 games. Gilliam has an 8-7 record with a team best 3.19 ERA. She has struck out 71 batters this season and allows opponents to hit .262.
