PHILADELPHIA - Senior
Francesco Mowrey posted a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles, but the La Salle University men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Duquesne in Atlantic 10 action on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duquesne earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to secure the match's first point. Sophomores Rogelio Gonzalez and Connor Merrill were tied at 5-5 in their match at No. 2, but play was stopped once the Dukes clinched the point.
- Mowrey secured a 6-3 win in the first set of his match against Chris Corrao, and finished out Corrao with a 6-4 triumph in the second.
- The Explorers had two other matches that were decided by razor-thin margins at No. 5 and No. 6.
- Merrill took the first set at No. 5, before Graham Conron bounced back to force a third and final set.Â
- The third was decided with a super tiebreaker, as Conron was victorious, 10-8.
- At No. 6, sophomore Colin Lucius went to two straight tiebreakers but was edged by Joey Matthews.
