PHILADELPHIA - Freshman
Nassim Fenjiro picked up his eighth singles victory of the season, defeating Eshan Kanetkar of Saint Joseph's. Despite taking the doubles point down to the wire and two more singles matches to a full three sets, the Explorers dropped a 6-1 decision to the Hawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Playing singles first, Fenjiro made relatively quick work of Kanetkar, securing a 7-5 win in the first set and cruising to a 6-1 victory in the second.
- Saint Joseph's took three of the first four matches to pull within one point of clinching the team win.
- The final two singles matches featured sophomores Connor Merrill and Colin Lucius.
- Merrill battled back from a set down to win the second, 6-4, but Daniel Tan took the third by a 6-2 margin to earn the fourth team point for the Hawks.
- Lucius won the first set and nearly had the match won in the second, before Beekman Schaffer came back to win a tiebreaker in the second set and eventually win the third, 6-4.
- Doubles was contested closely, as Merrill teamed with classmate Rogelio Gonzalez to earn a 6-3 win at No. 2.
- SJU won the top doubles spot and clinched the point with a 7-6 win at No. 3.
