PHILADELPHIA – After picking up its first conference win on Sunday, the La Salle softball team (6-18) travels to Lafayette (3-22-1) on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader. The first game is slated for 3 p.m. at the Lafayette Softball Field in Easton, Pa.
La Salle and Lafayette met earlier this season as part of the Elon Phoenix Invitational on March 2, with the Leopards claiming the victory, 7-3.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is 6-18 overall after a 1-2 weekend against St. Bonaventure. The Explorers claimed the series finale with a walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh from junior Emily Conaway.
- The Explorers are seeking their first road victory of the season, sitting at 0-7 heading into Wednesday.
- Conaway is leading the team in many offensive categories, including batting average (.316), at bats (76), runs (15), hits (24), homers (4), RBIs (19), total bases (44), slugging percentage (.579), and on-base percentage (.381).
- Conaway has reached base safely in eight-straight games, including a four-game hit streak. She also has six multi-RBI games and eight multi-hit games this season.
- Senior Emma Schweigert is second on the team in hitting with a .294 average. Starting all 24 games in center field, Schweigert surpassed the 100 career hits plateau this season and is second on the team with 20 this year. The senior leads the team in stolen bases with five and is second in runs, home runs, and total bases.
- The Blue and Gold have started six different freshmen this season, with four starting each game they've appeared in. Rookie Mackenzie Vogler is the only freshman to start in all 24 games this season. La Salle ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with six different rookies in a starting lineup this season.
- La Salle's pitching staff is comprised of three pitchers: freshman Cailey Joyce, sophomore Morgan Orlowski, and senior Marlo Roadcap.
- Joyce has been the team's workhorse, tossing 91.2 innings. She holds a 4-7 record and a 5.11 ERA. The Mechanicsburg, Pa. native has allowed 130 hits and 19 walks for 52 earned runs, while striking out 45.
- Orlowski has 14 appearances with 13 starts on the season for a 2-9 record. She holds a 5.46 ERA over 59.1 innings of work, allowing 36 earned runs on 94 hits and 22 walks. Orlowski has set down 28 batters on strikes this season.
- Roadcap has only three appearances on the season for 1.1 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS:
- Lafayette enters Wednesday's doubleheader at 3-22-1 overall with wins over La Salle, Penn, and Army.
- Brooke Wensel is pacing the team in hitting at .329. Wensel leads the squad with 28 hits, six doubles, two triples, and 41 total bases. She's started all 26 games this season.
- Malori Pojar is next on the team with a .311 batting average in 16 games.
- Collectively, the team is hitting .211 on the year.
- In the circle, Lafayette has thrown three different pitchers, led by Kinzi Van Wyk with 16 appearances and 14 starts. Van Wyk holds a 6.09 ERA over 81.1 innings and a 3-11 record. Allowing opponents to hit .330, she has given up 114 hits with 54 walks and 24 strike outs.
- Stacy Gordon is next on staff, seeing action in 13 games. Over 64.2 innings, Gordon posts an 0-10 record and a 7.38 ERA. She's allowed 53 earned runs on 86 hist and 24 walks.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- La Salle held a 3-2 lead before Lafayette scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning of the team's matchup earlier this season to claim the win.
- Joyce pitched six innings allowing six hits and one earned run before Orlowski came in for the final inning. Orlowski gave up six hits for four earned runs and recorded the decision.
- Freshman Natalie Rios and Schweigert each went 2-for-3, with the senior scoring a run and driving one in.
- Sophomore Ashley Mendenhall was 1-for 3 with a walk and two runs.
- At the plate, Joyce registered and RBI-double.
- Five different Leopards had a pair of hits.
