PHILADELPHIA – With four games left on the schedule, the La Salle softball team (12-30) will travel to Delaware (21-26) on Wednesday for its final non-conference game of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from the Delaware Softball Diamond in Newark, Del.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle is 12-30 on the season after claiming its most recent weekend series over Rhode Island 2-1.
- Freshman Cailey Joyce is leading the Explorers not only at the plate this season, but also in the circle. The dual threat rookie boasts a team high .282 batting average and is tied for a team best six dingers.
- Senior Emma Schweigert and junior Emily Conaway are next on the team at .280 and .278, respectively. Schweigert leads the team in walks and stolen bases, while Conaway is pacing the Explorers in hits, runs, RBIs, doubles, total bases, and is tied with Joyce for home runs.
- In the circle, Joyce is 8-14 overall with a 4.40 ERA. She's struck out a team leading 83 batters this season. Over 159.0 innings of work, Joyce has tossed 14 complete games with one shutout and one save.
- Sophomore Morgan Orlowski is the Explorers' other go-to pitcher. Orlowski is 4-14 on the season with a team best 4.18 ERA. In 114.0 innings of work, she's pitched 10 complete games and struck out 51.
- Schweigert is currently third all-time with 21 home runs and is six behind tying Megan Hodgson for second place and seven short of tying Michelle Hagarty for first.
- Conaway, who set the single season doubles mark at 14 a season ago, currently has 11 this year. She's also seven shy of tying the all-time mark.
SCOUTING THE BLUE HENS:
- Delaware enters play 21-26 on the season after claiming two games from Charleston over the weekend.
- Four different players are hitting .315 or better this season on a team that posts a .267 average.
- Anna Steimetz leads the team at .338 and has a team best eight homers.
- Hanna Garber is second on the team with a .325 average and paces the Blue Hens in hits, runs, walks, and stolen bases.
- Three different pitchers have seen action in the circle this season with Sarah Piening leading the way with a 13-11 record. Piening leads the staff with a 3.76 ERA, 154.1 innings pitched, 12 complete games, and 90 strikeouts.
