Women's Tennis Welcomes Five Newcomers to Program

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle University head tennis coach Marco Matteucci has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the women's program. Erin Gray (Allentown, N.J.), Lauren Landstrom, Mathilde Langevin (Montreal, Quebec), Isabella Leano (Coral Gables, Fla.) and transfer Denise Simonetti (Camburzano, Italy) comprise Matteucci's first recruiting class as head coach.

Erin Gray | Allentown, N.J. | Allentown HS
As a senior, Gray compiled an 18-2 record at No. 1 singles for Allentown High School, earning MVP honors. She earned a Top 30 ranking by the USTA Middle States and was also named team captain. A standout student she was also a member of the Italian and Math Honor Societies. 

Matteucci on Gray: "Erin brings a big game, a big serve and I'm so happy to add a left-handed player to our roster. I believe she has a lot of potential to grow as player and play an integral part of our team. I look forward to seeing her development."

Lauren Landstrom | New Berlin, Wis. | New Berlin Eisenhower
Rated a three-star recruit by TennisRecruiting.net, Landstrom ranked as the fifth-best player in the state of Wisconsin for the Class of 2020 and 346th nationally. As a senior, she posted a 31-3 record and was named first team all-conference at No. 1 singles.

Matteucci on Landstrom: "I was really impressed by how much she was competing during juniors. She showed a great passion for the sport, and during the recruiting process showed great maturity and responsibility. She is an outstanding addition to our program."

Mathilde Langevin | Repentigny, Quebec | Academie Estacades
Langevin is a veteran of the national tennis circuit in her native Quebec, Canada. She advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITF Junior De Saint-Francois in 2019, before falling to top junior player Jade Psonka from France.

Matteucci on Langevin: "Mathilde has show very good results in her junior career, she strikes the ball well and has competed at a the national level in Canada. I can't wait to see how she develops over this first year."

Isabella Leano | Coral Gables, Fla. | Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart
Another three-star recruit, Leano is a two-time state qualifier in Florida and helped her team reach the state semifinals as a sophomore and junior. She was ranked in Florida's Top 30 and No. 310 nationally by TennisRecruiting.net. In the classroom, she was a member of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart's National Honor Society, in addition to the English, Technical, French, Math, Social Studies and Science Honor Societies.

Matteucci on Leano: "Isabella brings a lot experience having played in Floirda for so many years. What impressed me the most during the recruiting process was her leadership qualities and the maturity she has shown. Her positive outlook on life, sports and helping others make her a great addition to the La Salle community and our program."

Denise Simonetti | Camburzano, Italy | Lamar University
Simonetti spent a season at Lamar University in Texas, posting a 2-0 singles record during the spring season. She joins the Explorers with an impressive resume from her time as a youth in Italy. She won several open tournaments and posted strong results in multiple ITF tournaments. Additionally, Simonetti battled back to win the consolation UTR draw at a national tournament in Milan.

Matteucci on Simonetti: Adding Denise was a great way to finish our recruiting class. She brings collegiate experience after spending one season at Lamar University, rose to a very good Italian ranking and her game is definitely one that fits our training. I look forward to watching her progress.
