GLEN COVE, N.Y. – An impressive start to the 2021 Nassau Invitational saw two Explorers sit in the top 10 after two rounds, helping La Salle to a 608 (+48) after two rounds.
ABOUT THE COURSE
- Playing at the Nassau Country Club, the par 70 course is playing at 6,553 over the opening two rounds.
- Monday consisted of two rounds of golf, with the final round of action concluding over the course of Tuesday morning.
- Nine teams are competing on the course with 47 golfers participating, including three individuals.
LA SALLE SCORECARD
- Nikita Romanov leads the way for the Explorers, pacing the field with an opening round of 66 to take a five shot advantage after 18 holes. The junior cooled off slightly in the second round, sitting in a tie for second place at 144 (+4) and only two strokes off the leader. Romanov's 66 in the first round is the only round shot under par in the entire field.
- After shooting a 75 in the first round, Karsen Rush dropped three strokes off his game for a second round of 72 (+2). 14 pars and a birdie encompassing his second round sees Rush sit in a tie for sixth, five strokes off the lead and three off his teammate with a 147 (+7).
- Matthew Werner shrugged off his first round by taking 11 strokes off his game the second time through, climbing back up the leaderboard with a 73 in the second 18, sitting at 157 (+17) in a tie for 26th.
- Another strong recovery in the second round was found by Alex Gekas, the freshman shooting eight shots better in the afternoon for a 76. Gekas sits at 160 (+20) after two rounds, heading into the final round in a tie for 37th.
- Ryan Smiley carded rounds of 84 and 82 and sits at 42nd.
- Playing as an individual, Logan Flores finished his day with rounds of 80 and 81 to sit at 161 (+21).
THE FIELD
- Long Island and St. John's both sit at the top of the leaderboard shooting a 595 (+35). La Salle sits just 13 strokes back of the lead with a 608 (+48).
- Andre Kleppe leads the pack for Long Island after two rounds of 72 and 70, handing in a scorecard of 142 (+2) after two rounds.
