PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle softball team (0-3) will host crosstown rival Saint Joseph's (5-5) for its home opener this weekend at West Campus Field. The squads will play a pair of double headers with two games on both Saturday and Sunday starting at noon and 2 p.m. both days.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
- La Salle fell in its first three games of the season at Towson last weekend.
- Sophomore Victoria Zatko is leading the squad in hitting at .500 with four hits in eight trips. She started all three games last weekend and has three RBIs, two runs, and two doubles.
- Senior Ashley Mendenhall and sophomore Maddy Little are second and hitting .375 apiece.
- Junior Sarah Dowalo (0-2) and sophomore Regan Ware (0-1) have each made three appearances in the circle.
- Dowalo has a 3.39 ERA in 10.1 innings pitched with just five of her 18 runs marked as earned.
- Ware has tossed 5.1 innings and holds a 19.69 ERA.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS:
- Saint Joseph's is 5-5 overall and is 1-3 on the road this season.
- The Hawks have a trio of hitters above .300. Kirstin Cox leads the pack at .455 with 15 hits in 33 at-bats. She's tallied six runs, five RBIs, two doubles, and two triples.
- Caela Abadie is second at .355, followed by Jessica Gaughan at .313.
- Four different pitchers have seen action and started a game for the Hawks. Amanda Herr leads the staff with eight appearances.
- Collectively the staff has a 3.77 ERA and allows opponents to hit .287.
