Box Score BRONX, N.Y. - Fresh off being named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, senior
Rogelio Gonzalez earned his third straight win at No. 1 singles for the La Salle men's tennis team, who fell to A-10 foe Fordham, 6-1, on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The doubles point went to Fordham, despite the fact that Gonzalez and classmate Connor Merrill led their match at No. 1 doubles by a 5-4 margin.
- Trailing 1-0, the Explorers received a straight-set victory from Gonzalez over Fabian Mauritzson, 6-2, 6-3.
- Junior Nassim Fenjiro dropped a tiebreaker in the first set of his match, before bouncing back with a 6-4 win in the second.
- The third saw Fenjiro and his opponent, Nicholas Kanazirev, go toe-to-toe in a marathon supertiebreak that saw the La Salle player have five match points.
- In the end, Kanazirev took the third, 19-17, and the Rams would take the remaining singles matches to account for the final margin of victory.
UP NEXT
- La Salle has a busy week next week, with matches at Rider, Loyola (Md.), and Harford Community College, before Senior Day against Hofstra at Legacy Tennis Center on Sunday, April 18.
