BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior
Rogelio Gonzalez won his fourth straight singles match at No. 1, however the La Salle men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Loyola (Md.) on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Explorers, who were playing without freshman Dylan Tull who suffered a minor injury in their match against Fordham, split the two contested doubles matches.
- Gonzalez and classmate Connor Merrill were victorious at No. 1, however the Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead thanks to a 6-4 win at No. 2.
- With No. 6 already defaulted to Loyola, La Salle quickly made up the 2-0 deficit with Gonzalez and junior Nassim Fenjiro taking relatively easy wins at the top two singles positions.
- Gonzalez allowed Skyler Gates to win five games over two sets, while Fenjiro triumphed, 6-2, 6-1.
- Loyola regained a 3-2 lead with a victory at No. 5, setting the stage for a pair of three-set matches that would decide the team winner.
- Seniors Connor Merrill and Colin Lucius each bounced back from first-set defeats to force third sets with their opponents at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
- Unfortunately, Loyola's Edik Pribitkin and Charlie Shanker were up to the challenge and secured both points.
UP NEXT
- The Explorers will have a quick turnaround with another road match at Rider on Wednesday, April 14, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
