Track and Field Concludes Successful Day at Penn Challenge

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle men's and women's track and field teams had a successful showing highlighted by three first-place finishes at the Penn Challenge on Saturday.

HOW THEY FINISHED (MEN):
  • Luke Jaciw-Zurakowsky, Taonga Mbambo and MacCallum Rowe all saw success in the 1500-meter. Jaciw-Zurakowsky was the first to cross the line to win the race with a time of 3:51.62 followed closely by Mbambo in second with a time of 3:51.63. Rowe clocked in at 3:56.89 for fourth.
  • Ryan James' second place finish with a time of 6:04.14 in the 2000m steeplechase set a new program record. David Ozarowski previously set the record in 2014 with a time of 6:12.98.
  •  The men had a great showing in field events with two first-place finishes from both Dennis Manyeah and Ben Wolfe. Manyeah hit 2.07m in the high jump while Wolfe reached 6.47m in the long jump.
  • Dylan Servis and Brycen Pitre made the top 10 in the 800m. Servis claimed seventh with a time of 1:56.41 while Pitre clocked in at 1:57.80 for ninth.
  • Alex Sandras was the top finisher for the Explorers in the 3000m. He recorded a time of 8:32.60 for 11th place.
HOW THEY FINISHED (WOMEN):
  • Nevaeh Davis led the women in sprints claiming fifth in the 100m with a time of 12.25. Ahliyah Allen and Olabisi Adams finished the race in 10th (12.51) and 11th (12.70), respectively.
  • Maya Primas claimed 11th in the 200m with a time of 25.76 and ninth in the 400m with a time of 59.11. Christine Mancini finished in the top 10 in the 400m alongside Primas claiming seventh with a time of 58.93.
  • Jenna Webb took third in the 800m clocking in at 2:20.26.
  • Three Explorers finished back-to-back in the 1500m led by Julia Flood in 10th with a time of 4:46.76. Jerika Lufrano followed behind in 11th (4:49.48) and Maeve Gimbert in 12th (4:50.83). Casey McLees claimed 14th place with a time of 5:09.11.
  • Theresa Richardson came in just shy of top-five in the 100 hurdles. She clocked in a time of 15.91 to take sixth.
  • Kasi Brown and Adams had a great showing in the long jump. Adams took second with a mark of 5.79m while Brown claimed fifth with a 5.67m jump.
UP NEXT:
  • The Explorers will head south next Thursday, Mar. 24 through Saturday, Mar. 26 for the Raleigh Relays.
