OLD BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The La Salle men's golf team concluded action at the 2022 Shark Invitational on Tuesday afternoon, finishing sixth in the event with a score of 898 (+46).
ABOUT THE COURSE
- The Brookville Country Club is a par 71 course that sits at 6,605 yards.
- Eight teams and 56 individuals make up the field, 16 different golfers playing as individuals.
LA SALLE SCORECARD
- In similar fashion to the opening day of the tournament, it was Karsen Rush and Nikita Romanov who were pacing the scoring for the Explorers, each finishing with low rounds for La Salle at 76 (+5). Starting on the front nine for the first time in the tournament, both Rush and Romanov charged through after making the turn, scoring a 37 and 38 on the back half, respectively.
- Rush finished just outside the top 10, finishing at +7 for the tournament to tie for 13th. Romanov followed two strokes behind at +9, settling for a tie for 20th.
- Logan Flores endured his worst round of the tournament, carding an 81 (+10) on the round to finish at +16 for the tournament.
- Matt Werner finished +7 in the third round, pushing his overall score to +17. Parker Wine completed his final round with an 80 (+9) and an overall score of +20.
LEADERBOARD
- Hosts Long Island University won the event, just holding on to a late charge from Southern Illinois. The Sharks took a two stroke lead into the final round, Southern Illinois going three under on the final hole to nearly eliminate the gap between themselves and the hosts. LIU finished at 858 (+6) on the tournament, 40 strokes ahead of the Explorers.
- Three-straight rounds of 70 saw Southern Illinois' Birgir Magnusson take the individual crown with a 210 (-3), one stroke ahead of LIU's Lewis Wright. Hartford's Conor Byrne sat at -4 heading into the final round, shooting a 75 on the final day to settle for a third place finish.
