Track & Field Takes First in Three Events at Penn Select

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The La Salle men's and women's track and field teams had two Explorers place first in running events while one claimed first in a field event at the Penn 10-Team Select on Saturday evening.
 
HOW THEY FINISHED (WOMEN):
  • El Mancini started the first 200-meter split of the 3000-meter in second place hitting the split in 37.01. The graduate student continued on a consistent pace to move into first at the 400m split with a time of 1:15.09. She remained the front-runner through the end of the race earning her first victory of the indoor season with a final time of 9:32.20.
  • Maeve Gimbert secured a spot in the top 15 crossing the line at 10:41.10 for 14th place.
  • Olabisi Adams began the indoor season the same way she finished the outdoor one. The junior placed first in the long jump with her best mark, 5.78m, coming in her third of six attempts.
  • Kasi Brown saw success in the event finishing just shy of medaling in fourth place with a mark of 5.22m, her second attempt.
  • Maya Primas cleared top 20 in the 34-person field for the 400-meter dash. The veteran hit the first split in 23rd place managing to turn on the heat to move up four spots to 19th place with a final time of 1:01.2.
  • Newcomer Georgia-Rose Dawson placed sixth in the 800-meter run. The freshman dropped to seventh at 600m split but regained her positioning in the final 200m with a time of 2:27.42.
  • Liz Mancini took home a bronze in the mile. The graduate student started off in the second spot and moved into first at the 800m split maintaining the lead spot through to the final 200m slowing a bit to claim third with a final time of 4:47.63. Sister Christine Mancini placed sixth in the 31-person field clocking in at 4:50.80.
HOW THEY FINISHED (MEN):
  • Liam Rivard led the charge for the men's side with his first victory of the indoor season in the 800m. The senior broke from the pack early in third eventually dropping to fourth at the 400m split. He moved up three spots over the next 400m averaging a time of 28.29 for each 200m split to claim first with a final time of 1:51.06.
  • Dylan Servis joined Rivard in the top 9 with the ninth spot clocking in at 1:55.45.
  • David Butts cleared top 20 in the 38-person field for the 3000m. The newcomer for the Explorers crossed the line with a final time of 8:18.25.
  • Justice Quainoo moved up eight spots in the second split of the of the 400m dash to claim 19th with a time of 51.64.
  • MacCallum Rowe finished on top for La Salle in the mile. He recorded a final time of 4:14.14 to take seventh place. Freshman Charlie Hazlett followed behind in 13th with a time of 4:15.86.
UP NEXT:
  • The teams will both return to Staten Island next Saturday, Jan. 21 for the Villanova Invitational.
