FAIRFAX, Va.- The women's track team competed in the second meet of the 2017 campaign when the team traveled to George Mason to run at the Colonial Relays. The Explorers competed against over 65 teams during the course of the three day meet.
Rookie
Jessica Bryant grabbed a fifth place finish in the field of 26 competitors in the long jump when she leapt 5.18m. Senior
Amber Jackson also competed, jumping a distance of 5.04m to place 11
th overall.
Jackson also took home a second place finish, La Salle's best finish of the day, in the women's triple jump. The senior leapt a distance of 11.27m to top 24 additional competitors.
Kaleah Miller placed 16
th overall with a leap of 10.86m while Bryant added a 19
th place finish with a 10.79m leap.
Shelby Francis represented La Salle in the 100m hurdles event, clocking a time of 15.37 to top 28 other runners. Francis also competed in the 400m hurdles race, clocking a time of 1:10.27.
Ariel Mitchell crossed the line at 12.47 in the 100m dash to place 12
th overall in the finals, topping 60 other runners on the day.
Desirae Osley ran in the 400m dash, finishing the race in 1:00.93 to beat 20 other competitors in the field of 66 as La Salle's sole runner.
Amber Jenkins competed in the 200m dash, clocking a time of 26.24 to earn a 32
nd place finish on the day.
Ifetayo Tyler earned a 24
th place out of 99 other competitors in the 800m run when she clocked a time of 2:12.92.
Four Explorers competed in the field of 94 runners in the 1500m event.
Kaitlin Poiesz led the group with a 23
rd place finish thanks to a time of 4:38.87, while freshman
Grace Mancini ran a personal best of 4:39.77 to followed behind in 25
th.
Michelle Myland (4:51.41) and
Emily Ward (4:52.56) also competed to earn 64
th and 68
th places, respectively.
Morgan Szekely finished ninth in a field of 97 runners in the 5000m run when she crossed the line in 17:02.47.
The Explorers sent four teams into the relay races on the third and final day of competition.
A women's 4x100m relay of Mitchell, Miller, Osley and Jenkins sprinted to a 15
th place finish in a field of 40 teams with a time of 49.06.
Jenkins, Mitchell, Bryant and Osley competed in the 4x400m competition, collectively clocking a time of 4:02.94 on the day.
La Salle was represented in the 1600m sprint medley by freshmen Francis,
Tyller Moorer,
Capri Laurence and
Devon Barr that clocked a time of 4:31.84.
Mancini, Tyler, Szekely and Myland made up a team that placed ninth thanks to a time of 12:10.43 in the distance medley.
La Salle will resume the spring season next Friday, March 7 when the team travels to Princeton, N.J. to compete in the Sam Howell Invitational.
