James Abel was a two-time All-American for the Explorers in the 500 and 1650 yard freestyle. Abel helped the Explorers finish third at the NCAA Championship in 1964 and fifth in 1965 and 1966. He won the 1966 Middle Atlantic Conference Championship in the 500 freestyle and set school records in the 200, 500 and 1650 yard freestyle.
