One of the best pitchers in the history of La Salle's baseball program, Hentz still ranks second all-time on the career wins list with 18 and among the career leaders in strikeouts and innings pitched, categories in which he held records at the time of his graduation. During his junior campaign, he led the East Coast Conference with six wins and 59 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched. As a senior, the right-hander was 7-3 with a sparkling 2.80 ERA, and ranked fourth in the conference with 64 strikeouts. Hentz, who also threw one of two no-hitters in program history and ranks second in career shutouts, went on to play professionally following graduation and was selected in the 17th round of the 1982 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Atlanta Braves.
